What is involved?

  • All reviews are flexible and designed to be bespoke to the needs of individual schools and groups of schools in MATs.
  • Reviews can involve deep dive-type activities focusing on a particular subject or subjects. Reviews can also be thematic and focus on wider aspects of the curriculum, such as SMSC, for example.
  • Depending on requirements, reviews can last for one or two days. Prior to the school visit, the consultant will review the school website and other curriculum documentation so that activities are specific to the school.
  • The reviews are non-judgemental and are delivered in a developmental and supportive manner. Key staff often benefit from joining the consultant and taking part in all activities. This provides for effective professional development as well as building capacity for further improvement. It is often helpful if a governor/trustee can join some of this process as an observe.

    Outcome:
  • The school will receive a detailed report which captures the strengths and areas for development which will have been agreed with school leaders during the visit. Practical recommendations will also be included in the report.
  • Schools will also receive a range of practical resources which they can use straight away.

Benefits:

  • A review will provide school leaders with important evaluative information which they can use to update their SEFs and development plans, as appropriate.
  • Schools will be well placed to demonstrate strong curriculum leadership when inspected by Ofsted.
